Creating Life First Business Strategy for Entrepreneurs
Think: one game-changing strategy, the resources you didn't know you needed, and a few fun favorites we're loving right now. Quick to read, packed with value, you in? 🕒 3-minute read, unlimited inspiration.

Hi Reader,

This was the first real week of summer.

Not the kind where someone is homesick. Not the kind where we are living out of suitcases. Just summer. The actual thing. Nobody needed a doctor and nobody needed a boarding pass, and I am not sure that has happened since school let out.

It was also my first Zoom call in three weeks. Three. And honestly? It was a good one to come back to.

But the part I keep thinking about happened on the patio.

We have caterpillars. A whole little crew of them. And instead of doing the responsible adult thing and moving on with my day, I sat out there and watched them. Then we built them a house. A real one. We are fully invested in whether these things become butterflies, and I refuse to be embarrassed about it.

That same week, Scott and I officially hit twenty years married. We snuck away for dinner and ice cream, which, after twenty years, is exactly the right amount of fuss. And the day after this email lands in your inbox, we bring our new puppy home. We haven't had a dog for 8 years, and to say we are excited is an understatement.

Life is life-ing. The slow kind. The good kind.

Here is what I want you to hear, because it is the whole reason I built the business this way.

That patio hour is the whole point. You do not build the thing so you can grind harder and maybe, someday, earn an hour to watch the caterpillars. You build it so the hour is already yours.

Funny enough, that is exactly what we spent two days on at Camp Creative this week with our Co-Op. Camp Creative is our quarterly virtual retreat. Five speakers, two days, and one message threaded through all of it: you are allowed to want the big, full life and the slow, easy one too. It might be the best retreat we have run. đź’›

So that is the week. Caterpillars, twenty years, and a puppy who has no idea what she is walking into. I hope yours has a little slow in it too. In the best “be your own CEO” kind of way.

XO,
Holly

P.S. Yes, I will absolutely be sharing puppy photos. This is your one and only warning.

P.P.S. A quick something before you go. Speaking of retreats. Two in-person retreat spots just opened for October, and this one is special. It is our tenth.

Here is the deal. You come work with me and my team for three days. We do a full photoshoot. And you walk away with an entire quarter of content done. Not planned. Not outlined. Done.

If you have ever ended a quarter wondering where all your content time went, this is the fix. Three days, and the next three months are handled. Just reply RETREAT and we will send you the details.

✨Your Weekly Strategy Shift

All roads lead to your email list.

Monday's podcast episode is one I almost cannot wait for you to hear. I sat down with Sam Vander Wielen, who grew her email list to 66,000 subscribers organically. No algorithm gymnastics. No posting through her lunch break. Just a list she actually owns.

Here is the shift. Your email list is the only audience you will never lose to an algorithm change, a shadow ban, or a platform that decides to stop showing your stuff to people who literally asked to see it. For me, 71% of sales come from email. Not social. Email.

So this week, one move: send the email you have been sitting on. The imperfect one. The list does not need your best work every time. It needs you to show up in it.

Then go listen to Sam on Monday. You are going to want a notebook.

A few things I'm loving, sharing, and clicking this week:

  • I am honored I keep getting invited to talk AI with the experts. What I am proudest of: we built Anti-Social School™ to put a real human at the center of the AI, not hand your business over to a robot.
  • Speaking of getting found, Michelle Fernandez's traffic training is the one I point people to when they are ready for the right humans to discover them without posting all day.
  • Classic summer means trash TV and snacks, and America's Sweethearts season three is delivering exactly what I needed.
  • Cracking open this book on the patio this weekend. Caterpillars permitting.
  • The puppy is not even home yet and I have already overdone it on the starter kit. Apparently, every day needs a popsicle bandana. No regrets. Send me your must-haves.
